BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Lausanne by a French father and a Bolivian mother, Marc was Assistant Conductor at the Opéra National de Bordeaux from 2016 to 2019 where he regularly conducted opera and ballet performances, as well as symphonic concerts. He is a conducting fellow of the Akademie Musiktheater Heute (2018-2021) and studied conducting in Vienna and Zürich with Mark Stringer and Johannes Schlaefli. He has participated in masterclasses with conductors including Vladimir Jurowski and Bernard Haitink.
A passionate opera conductor, Marc enjoys a wide operatic repertoire from Händel and Mozart to Ravel, Weill and Rihm. Recent highlights include productions of Donizetti's Un Elixir d'amour at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Arthur Lavandier's La Légende du Roi Dragon, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Mârouf, Savetier du Caire with Opéra National de Bordeaux, and Die Sieben Todsünden with Ensemble Nomade. He has also assisted productions of Pelléas et Mélisande and Les Huguenots at Grand Théâtre de Genève, Béatrice et Benedict at Opéra National de Lyon, Manon at Opéra Comique in Paris, and Jakob Lenz at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Furthermore, Marc made his ballet conducting debut in June 2018 with a Kylían-Béjart-Robbins production and recently conducted Prokofiev's Cinderella choreographed by Sir David Bintley, and La Fille mal Gardée (Ashton) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux. He also made his debut with Opéra de Lyon in September 2019 for their production of a double-bill choreographed by Russel Maliphant.
Symphonic highlights include Musikkollegium Winterthur, Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine, Sudwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Limoges and Janacek Philharmonie Ostrava. As an assistant, Marc has worked with conductors including Marc Minkowski, Paul Daniel, Ingo Metzmacher and Jonathan Nott.
Upcoming symphonic engagements include performances with Orchestre Regional de Cannes Provence Alpes-Cote d'Azur, Orchestra della Toscana, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Real Philharmonia de Galicia and Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. He also makes his debut with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and National Ballet of Japan, in a Forsythe/Petit program. Marc continues to assist in opera productions, making his debut at Opéra de Paris with Enescu's Oedipe.
Marc is a strong advocate for musical education and outreach projects. In 2009, he founded a youth symphony orchestra, l’Orchestre Quipasseparlà, with the aim of finding new ways to make music accessible to everyone. This included concerts in hospitals, retirement homes and homeless shelters. Marc also has a YouTube channel dedicated to bringing some of the greatest operatic masterpieces to wider audiences.
